Idea: Allow for Families with 10 users or less to keep using the dedicated @myfamily.com Free Legacy

Please allow me to present my problem first: I have been a user of the Free Legacy suite for family purposes for almost 15 years. Now that this option will disappear, and the only no-cost alternative does not allow me to keep the dedicated @myfamily.com email, I am about to enter into a substantial administrative mess. The biggest problem is that we have ten users using the @myfamily.com email, and these emails are the ones we use in the records of multiple services, such as my kids' schools, mortgage account, IRS, banks, utilities, streaming services, and countless retail sites like Costco or Starbucks and social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Also, countless friends, family, and databases (i.e., University Alumni) have this email to contact me. And this is only me, and we are ten members of the family in the same situation.

Worst of all, my parents: they are 80 years old, and this is the only email they have had in the last decade or more. Updating all their services and communicating with all their contacts is going to be a big burden.

Please understand that my biggest problem is not "backing up" my information (files, videos, and emails). But the problem we are going to have by losing the email address @myfamily.com

My suggested idea is: ALLOW FOR THE FAMILIES WITH LESS 10 USERS OR LESS TO KEEP USING THE DEDICATED @myfamily.com email address.

You can't imagine how big a problem you will avoid. Please remember, users, are people, not accounts.

Thank you for your understanding

You might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group, and https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ for how to get access. This will allow it to be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Cheers,

Ian

Thank you, @icrew , I will do so. I just need to join those groups first since I am not a member yet. But thanks for the tip. I hope we can get this implemented sometime. Just this week, I've spent almost 5 hours researching and updating databases. Not all successfully. This is going to be a big deal when we lose this feature.

Thank you for your message.

Javier

We have the same issue, and I know of many more like us.

Just because one owns and uses a DOMAIN for email doesn't make them a BUSINESS.

Other option would be to grant and allow the not for profit option as this also makes sense as a family is not making any profit...

Thank you, @markdawes . I also feel a little disappointed that "the rules" were changed 180 degrees, years after we all created information systems with some level of complexity, respecting the guidelines and constraints put on the Free Legacy option. We knew there were limitations, and we abide by them.

Hi Javier, I'm in the same mess, having 8 users active (exactly as you).. desperation!..;-((

What is strange yet, is that message, which still seems to give chances to opt into the "no cost option". (see attachment).

The problem is, that, they automatically upgraded my Free G Suite account and now, in the process of putting billing data, their is no "no cost option" (for personal use) visibile!

Anyone can help on this?

Thank you,

Fabio

Hi Javier,

The issue is solvable! ๐Ÿ˜€

Just contact Google Help via chat (via Admin console/Guide/up right Question mark button): after few checks they send you this link https://admin.google.com/ac/billing/legacytransition  and enable you to opt into the NO COST OPTION for personal use!

Hoping this could help all!

Ciao

F.
