If everyone leaves the space, there will be no administrator and the space cannot be deleted.

I can confirm the existence of the space by browsing, but I cannot go back to the administrator again. Thus, I will not be able to change the settings of the space or delete it.

Well that is a huge problem and a lot of people are complaining about that. We need more administrator settings for Google Chat. The few things we have are not helping. I wonder why Google isn't copying a lot from Slack in this area.

Maybe as workaround. No one else should create a space. That should be done by the administrator. That way you have a bit more control. I have a dedicated user for this. Makes no sense to see all spaces in my account.

Thanks for the reply.

Previously, the spaces could not be deleted, so the only way was for everyone to leave. Thus, we were left with the wreckage of an unoccupied space.

I would like to report this to the Google staff.

Yes I would like to report a lot of things and I think it should be possible to have some dedicated Google Workspace support. We pay a lot for this and some direct Google support should be possible.

Thanks!

There are three ways to submit issues, feedback, and ideas related to Google Workspace:

1) Contact Workspace Support: https://support.google.com/a/answer/1047213?hl=en

2) Provide feedback directly in the specific tool. Each tool has a menu item similar to Chat's "Send feedback to Google" or Docs' "Help Docs improve" shown below. I have it on good authority that that feedback gets directly to the product teams. They don't respond directly to that feedback, but they do read and consider it:

3) You can post an idea to the Feature Ideas section here on GCC. Doing so will allow it to be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you do not already have access, you need to request it first. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ for how to do that.

Once you have access, go to https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group . There, you can upvote and comment on any similar idea, or post a new idea.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Cheers,

Ian

I have sent feedback to Google.
I didn't know about method (3) and will look into it.

Thank you!

All of the options are good, but it would be much better if you could get some feedback from Google. This is what I hate the most. You send feedback and you get nothing in return. That is the reason I would like to have dedicated support team you can actually get in touch and have a conversation.

Thatโ€™s available too, but at a cost of course. Check out https://workspace.google.com/support/, especially the bit about โ€œTechnical Account Advisor Serviceโ€

Hope that helps,

Ian

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. A basic support with a proper feedback is enough. As long as Google is monitoring the "Feature Ideas" forum and give feedback and I am talking about good feedback it should be a start.

Thank you!

Yes, I faced exactly same issue as akihiromio30 (Participant I).
Previously, the spaces could not be deleted, so the only way was for everyone to leave the spaces. Then ended up no administrator and the space cannot be deleted. The space still exist by browsing, and cannot go back to the administrator again after joined. Thus, unable to change the settings of the space or delete it.
Google Workspace Admin has no authority to delete or change setting of the Google Chat Spaces if he/she is not the Space Manager.

I happened to come across this post today and I am not sure if the instructions in https://support.google.com/a/answer/13369245?hl=en#zippy=%2Cdelete-one-space would work but I am not seeing a disclaimer in this section saying the admin has to be a space manager however for this to work.

Hi Penelpe, thanks for your reply.
https://support.google.com/a/answer/13369245?hl=en#zippy=%2Cdelete-one-space works for my case. The Google Chat Spaces can be deleted via Google Admin Console after I tested it. Thank you.

Thanks for writing back and letting me know.
