Dear Google Workspace Team,
We are writing to inquire about the possibility of identifying the individual sender of emails sent through a Google Group address.
Currently, when an email is sent via a Google Group, recipients only see the group's email address as the sender. This makes it challenging for group administrators to easily determine which specific member initiated a particular message. Without this visibility, tracing communication history, addressing specific member actions, or ensuring accountability within the group becomes difficult.
For effective group management, having a clear way to identify the individual sender is highly beneficial.
Could you please clarify if there is a current method to easily identify the individual sender of a group email? If not, we would like to request this as a feature enhancement to significantly improve our ability to manage Google Groups and maintain accountability among members.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Check out:
1) In Google Groups: make sure the โDefault Senderโ is set to โAuthorโs addressโ and โIdentification required for new membersโ is set to โGoogle profile onlyโ. See the โAdvanced Settings Referenceโ section of https://support.google.com/groups/answer/2464926?hl=en#zippy=%2Cadvanced-settings-reference for more details.

Dear Google Workspace Team,
Thank you for your prompt reply and the provided resources. I appreciate you taking the time to look into my inquiry.
I apologize for not explaining my question more clearly. My main concern is regarding the Google Groups app. If a user sends an email through a group email address using the Google Groups app, is there a way within the app to display the actual user's name or email address who sent the message, rather than just the group email address?
Thank you again for your assistance.
Sincerely,
First, this is a community site of your fellow workspace administrators from around the world. I don't (and never have) worked for Google. Greetings from the University of California, Berkeley.
Second, when you say "Google Groups app" are you referring to sending a message via the https://groups.google.com web interface? Or some other tool? The https://groups.google.com interface does follow the "default sender" setting I mentioned in my last message.
Hope that helps,
Ian
Hi Ian,
Thanks for your help and your response. Yes, my question is about https://groups.google.com web interface. I knew https://groups.google.com web interface has the default sender setting. However I would like to know that if a member uses the Group email as the sender, then can other members directly see whose sent the email on https://groups.google.com web interface?
Sincerely,
Elain

No it doesn't, so you need to make sure that this permission is not given to those you don't trust.
Hi @StephenHind ,
OK, thank you for your response and hope the request can be added in the production roadmap. ๐
Sincerely,
