Managing iOS Devices with Google Workspace MDM – Conflicting Information

Hi everyone,

We are a small tenant with around 15 users, and our goal is to manage our iOS devices using Google Workspace MDM (Device Management). Specifically, we want to:

  • Enforce security policies
  • Wipe devices remotely
  • Add devices to the "Company-owned iOS devices" inventory

Issue: Conflicting Information in Google’s Documentation

We have a Google Workspace Business Plus license, which I understand does not provide access to all MDM features. However, based on this Google support article, it appears that enabling Advanced Management should allow us to enforce security policies and add iOS devices as "Company-owned."

After reading this, I activated Advanced Management via Admin Console. I expected to be able to register company-owned iOS devices under this section, but when I attempted to add new devices, I found another support article, which states that Apple Business Manager (ABM) integration is required.

Problem: Missing Apple Business Manager (ABM) Setup Option

To proceed with ABM, I needed to set up Apple certificates under Apple Certificates → Set Up Enrollment, but this option is missing in our tenant.

Questions:

  1. With a Google Workspace Business Plus license, is it possible to achieve our goals (remote wipe, security policies, company-owned iOS management)?
  2. If not, are there any workarounds or partial MDM features available with our current license?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, and have a great day!
