I'm getting the royal run-around in the help pages, and it's so frustrating, I want to scream. I need a human being, someone with common sense, to help me!!!
Here's the story: years ago, I created wod-talent-grid-maker.appspot.com on appspot. I did it completely for free at the time. Some time later, google acquired appspot and apparently they're in the progess of merging all the appspot apps with Google Cloud.
Several weeks ago, I got an email saying I need to log into the google admin console and do some things, or they'll transition my account from a free one to a paying one---or something like that. And I have until tomorrow to avoid going into pay-up mode!
When I clicked the link in the email to log into the admin console, it said, "Oh! Your email address ends in @gmail.com, that's no good. You have to log in with your admin account!" ...But I don't have an admin account, to the best of my knowledge. I'm not sure I ever did, really.
Whatever you do, PLEASE don't try sending me to the google help pages---they don't help at all! I tried them, but they're the very things that gave me the royal run-around! One of them says "Your current account, ------@gmail.com, isn’t managed by an administrator. The account isn’t associated with any company, school, or group. Instead, it’s a free Google Account that you can manage yourself."
But when I try to log in with my gmail account, it says, "Nope! You need an admin account."
Royal. run. around.
You can see why I procrastinated until the last minute to go through this insanity! If they'd wanted me to do it earlier, they really should've made a system that wasn't insanely frustrating...
So...with all that context in mind: am I screwed? Is there an actual way out of this catch-22 loop?
Or should I be contacting my bank to tell them not to give google one red cent of my money, and hope they respond to the whole not-getting-paid thing by cancelling this whole thing for me?

Are you trying to login to this Google Cloud console, and not the Workspace Admin Console?

I am able to login with my personal gmail.com account and view my personal projects (storage, App Engine, etc.)

I am able to login with my personal gmail.com account and view my personal projects (storage, App Engine, etc.)
I was able to log in and see my project when I used your link! Thank you SO much!
...Unfortunately, when I look at my Google Cloud console, I don't actually see anything about any transitions, or being able to opt out of them....
I'm starting to wonder if Google sent me the email about "opting out of a transition" in error in the first place?
Hello!
If you have a domain and need to access admin.google.com, then you need to have a cloud identity or Google Workspace Panel.
You just have to subscribe using this link to have cloud identity:
https://workspace.google.com/signup/gcpidentity/welcome#0
That way you will have a Google account that will use your domain.
Having a Google Workspace or cloud identity panel automatically will create an organization on GCP.
Don't mind costs, cloud identity licence is free so you will have a free panel and can create till 50 accounts.
If you don't have a domain, then you can't access admin.google.com, because only people with a domain can have this panel.
You still can use GCP without have a domain, but is not recommended.
Anyway, if you can print the e-mail that you received, maybe it has more informations for us.
Hope it helps.
I really appreciate your help. Since there's no personally-identifying information in it, so I'll paste it here.
The links in the email that they sent me don't work for me---I find I don't have the kind of account they're looking for when I click the links. But JasonTM1's link worked perfectly for me.
Since there are no alerts in Google Cloud when I'm logged into that...well, I'm starting to wonder if they sent me this email in error in the first place, or something...
Anyhow, here's the email they sent to me:

Dear Administrator,
We previously notified you that you would need to upgrade from the G Suite legacy free edition to Google Workspace by June 1, 2022 or your account would be automatically upgraded. However, we've recently updated our timeline for the transition and you now have until June 27, 2022 to take action.
As your account has been inactive for quite some time, we are now reaching out to your secondary email address.
For businesses, the G Suite legacy free edition will no longer be available after June 27, 2022 (updated from June 1, 2022). We recommend you upgrade now to a Google Workspace subscription that meets your needs. Upgrading from your G Suite legacy free edition to Google Workspace will only take you a few short steps and is not disruptive to your end-users.
When you've identified your preferred subscription follow these steps:
If you take no action by June 27, 2022, we’ll begin to upgrade your organization seamlessly to a new Google Workspace subscription. The new subscription will be based on what you currently use with your G Suite legacy free edition.
In addition to recent innovations like smart canvas, meetings in documents, and dedicated Spaces to help organize people, topics and projects, Google Workspace includes more storage, increased security, 24/7 support, and more. To complete the transition and avoid account suspension, switch now and enter your billing details in your Admin Console before August 1, 2022. You’ll have limited time discount options to support you in this transition.
If you’re an individual or family using your account for non-commercial purposes, you can continue using the G Suite legacy free edition and opt out of the transition to Workspace in the Google Admin console before June 27, 2022.
If no action is taken, we’ll begin upgrading your organization seamlessly to a new Google Workspace subscription starting June 27, 2022. To complete your upgrade and avoid account suspension, you'll need to set up Google Workspace billing before August 1, 2022.
In case that you need to reactivate your account, you’ll need to log into the Admin console and enter a valid form of payment.
Qualifying educational institutions and nonprofits have the option to migrate to Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals or Workspace for Nonprofits without service disruption.
Date | Action |
Before June 27, 2022 | Upgrade to a new Google Workspace subscription or opt out of the transition. |
Before August 1, 2022 | Complete your upgrade by setting your Google Workspace billing. |
Visit the help center for information on the G Suite legacy free edition to Google Workspace transition.
If you have questions or need assistance, please Contact Google Workspace support. When you call or submit your support case, use reference issue number 205265775. If you have trouble accessing your administrator account, please refer to instructions to reset your administrator password.
Thanks for choosing Google Workspace.

I think you may be confusing your old appspot account/app with an old G Suite account. This email is related to your old G Suite (mail/drive/docs/sheets/etc) account, with one of your own domains, being migrated to Google Workspace.
The email was sent to your gmail account because you had it listed as a backup email for the account using your own domain, which has been inactive for some time.
So you need to use the link in the email but you will login using the email address which you created for that custom domain name you owned.
@willgo4value Are you an admin for your Google Workspace instance? If not, then logging in to superadmin won't help BUT see my other post. Then if you need more help, ask your superadmin at your workspace instance for help. Fingers crossed if you do have missing files, they have vault or a backup to restore them for you. -KAM
