No way to add a billing option in Admin Console

I (like many) have used the G Suite legacy free edition since it started - and I'm now struggling to find an alternative/way out of this mess Google have dropped me into.....

All the Google on-line pages say like: Upgrade from G Suite legacy free edition

"Step 1: Start billing setup

Only the primary super administrator who created the account can set up billing.

  1. In your Google Admin console (at admin.google.com)...
  2. At the top, click Start Paid Service or Set Up Billing.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up billing.

But when I try this all I get to is :

Subscriptions Add or upgrade a subscription

Seems I have no choice but switch to Google Workspace Business Starter.

I really just want to add a billing option and get on the 'no cost option waiting list' - if it ever appears - so I won't lose my access on 1st June.

But Google seem to have made it compulsory to Upgrade before that!

Anyone found a way out of this catch 22? 🤔

No, sadly, the only thing you can do is upgrade. I was kind of forced to upgrade in order to maintain my email URL working. Google got me an additional year for $1.8 a month per account. But honestly, I am only using that extra time to find a solution away from Google. I am not paying $6 per user.

Sorry to hear you are in the same situation.
