Someone came to me about not receiving email notifications when tagged in Google Sheets. She's getting notifications for comments to her. I just tested it for myself, and I'm not getting these notifications either.
We followed the support page's instructions on turning notifications on for comments and edits, but she still wasn't getting any notifications.

Hi,
You should do an email log search and check if you have a filter, routing rule or any other rule that could be changing the route of emails

Thanks, that's a good one. I did catch in my own instance the filter marked all those comments as read. So that's a good place to go.
I changed my notifications settings and made changes from another account to the sheets and I received the messages in my email. So I'm going to wait to see if there are any changes for her since we made those notifications settings changes. When we both were in there, she was making changes, but it wouldn't send them to her obviously since she's the originator of those changes.
In this tags/notification theme, if I tag someone directly in the Google Doc (not in the comments) and they are not on my domain, and they do not have access to the document, how can I confirm they are not notified and that a patch won't come up that updates this without my knowledge?
I prefer to add them because it's quick and easy for the team to ingest, but they are customer contacts and the document is shared internally only. I do not want them to be notified in any way.

Hello! I'm having similar issues. I have tried tagging myself with a smart chip in a cell, as well as in a comment. I am receiving notifications in Google Chat now rather than my email. I've followed all the steps from all the articles, but nothing has worked. I also followed this thread for help. No luck. Any ideas?
