Old email address still visible in Workspace

Hi,

I've recently changed my first name and our administrator changed my Workspace email address accordingly (just the prefix before the @). However, in some cases my old email address is still visible. For example, when people log into their Workspace environment and see documents I've shared with them, or when people forward an e-mail to me (they see my new name, but my old email address).

I've asked this question here before, see the topic here.
The suggested solutions seemed to work, but unfortunately the problem still exists.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
James

It's probably one of two settings:

Specifically, for the second one, the following setting in Gmail is on-by-default (itโ€™s in Settings > General):

That feature is really pretty handy, for lots of reasons, and turning it off would have some pretty negative impacts to the usability of Workspace.

BUT thereโ€™s a serious bug in that feature. The auto-saved contacts in โ€œOther Contactsโ€ override the local Google Workspace directory.

That means that for people who change their lived name, anyone who ever sent an email to them before they changed their lived name will continue to have Gmail autocomplete the dead name, even if the person has properly updated their lived name in the Workspace directory.

Hope that helps,

Ian

Hi,

If they have you saved with your old email address under their contacts it will not be changed even if your administrator has made changes under their admin console, anyone who has saved you as a contact with the old email address will need to update that contact to the new email address.
