Hi there, I've been assigned the task to split up one Google Workspace into 10 separate Workspaces, as the companies that work from the Google Workspace want to have their own environment. I have a few questions:
Can you transfer data from apps such as Google Search Console or Google Ads?
If people signed in with their Workspace Account on 3rd party apps, will the data still be tied to the 'new' Workspace account? The email address will be the exact same.
Should I use the Workspace Migration tool or Google Takeout? Workspace migration tool seems to only be for emails, and not for anything else.
Maybe someone has been a similar situation, I would love to hear about the risks/what you learned in the process.
Kind regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas
For Google Ads, Analytics and Merchant Centre accounts, you don't migrate the data you give the new account access to the data and optionaly remove the old account - details are at https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/44500
Similarly for YouTube channels, details at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3056283
Access to third party apps will depend on how that access is configured, if it uses an email address and a separate password then it will carry on working, if it uses Google Authentication then it wont work as you will have a different account (albeit with the same name) so best to check with the third party apps on that one
Workspace migration tool only migrates email from Workspace to Workspace https://support.google.com/a/answer/10841690#where. Google Takeout would get you all the data but can take a long time to download all the zip files, have you considered a paid for migration tool such as CloudM? I have used their tool before for Google to Google migrations with a lot of success. (I don't work for CloudM and have no links to them other than as a previous user of their tool. Other tools exist which may work better for your use case etc)
Timing is key to a migration like this as the email domain can only exist on 1 Workspace instance at a time and it can take a few hours after deleting the domain before it is available to use in the new instance, so overnight or a weekend my be best tim limit the mipact to the user. Also note the user will have a new account (again albeit with the same email address) and so they will have to remove the old account and add the new one to mobiles. Also note any apps or media (films or music etc) purchased under the original account will be lost as it is linked to the original account
Good luck
Graham
What is the benefit of separate Google Workspace environments theyโre after? There are a multitude of benefits of a single, consolidated Google Workspace environment: more seamless collaboration, streamlined administration, better pricing, etc.
