Trying to change storage limit for members of a group

Iโ€™m trying to use these new user storage settings, but itโ€™s not working. I created a group called Storage Exceptions and made a storage rule for it, but the user in that group is still getting the workspace quota (30GB) instead of the group quota (50GB). I also tried turning off limits for the group but it also had no effect.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Yes. Nonprofits are also limited to 30GB per user. You can, however, create shared drives which, as of today, still have no enforced storage limit.

The other option is to upgrade your account. As a Nonprofit, you can upgrade to the Business Standard edition with a 75% discount.

In order to get the discount, you must follow the steps detailed in the following article: https://support.google.com/nonprofits/answer/1614861

Hope this helps.

You are trying to assign 50GB but the maximum storage per user for your edition (I'm guessing Business Starter) is 30GB. Unless that 30GB I see in the screenshot is another limit you have set before.

Note that the Business Starter edition does not have pooled storage, so each user cannot have more than 30GB.

Interesting. We are on Nonprofit Edition which I have been able to find very little documentation about. Do you think it has the same limitations? Is there somewhere in the admin tools where I can see this limit?

Thanks, this explains it! I appreciate your help.

Thanks for this . I wasted so much time with the same issue. I wish the Workspace would just respond with a screen that says this change cant be done because it's above the storage limit allowed.

Exactly! A useful error message would be very helpful and save a lot of troubleshooting time.

In the latest post shared about pooled storage. Nonprofits were mentioned as one of the editions supporting pooled storage feature from the link below

On the editions storage and upload limit it was even indicated that Non Profits are supplied with a total pooled storage of 100TB

Could you care to explain how these info posted by Google is now quite different with what you explained

Not sure this question was for me, but I'll reply just in case (despite being so obvious):

My response was from May, 10th, 2022.. So, more than one year ago.
And Google started rolling out pooled storage for accounts that did not yet had it in May 2023.

If individual storage limits is turned off shouldn't all users then have access to the shared pool of space? I did just that on my non-profit edition but users are still being shown their limits.

This entry is as of 19 June 2023.

It seems that Google Workspace Business Starter is now/also under pooled storage, not restricted by max limit of 30GB anymore?

However, when I try to raise the limit, it doesn't change - same issue as above.

This is pretty confusing.

My case is the same - my CEO is out of space, and he is asking how to increase only his space past 30Gb.

@frankleewh the rollout of pooled storage will be "months" per https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2023/05/pooled-storage-shared-drives-for-google-workspace-bu... and I believe you can look to received an email with a Subject like Pooled Storage benefits coming soon to your Google Workspace.... that will tell you when it's getting closer.  -KAM

We just started coming across this issue... do you know if they are still trying to roll out pooled storage? I would expect it to be complete by now.
