One of the users in my domain had shared a file related to research work prior to the holiday break. She had access to it as did the staff member it was shared with. When they returned from break, the files were gone. I tried the support chat and they had the user type " is:unorganized owner:me" in the search field to no avail. Last seen outside of 25 days ago so I'm not sure recover files would work.
The user just told me she IDd a couple more missing files.
Support has generally been great, but this one was supposed to get escalated to the next tier of support and then communication got squirrely by email. Additionally challenging because the user is in class all day so getting her present for troubleshooting is another challenge.
Any suggestions?
If it was in a "shared drive' try restoring the share drive data from the admin console.

if it was in a 'shared folder' find the owner and restore that users data:

Help me with an error screenshot or more details if you still need help.
Thank you for the suggestions. Here is a video of the user looking for the files using the steps the support folks gave me.
I suppose the video is an error screenshot or is the issue resolved? if not try following the methods mentioned by me.
Only if the "shared drive " or "shared file" was deleted then the files would go to unorganized due to a lack of path i guess
The files were on the users drive, not a shared drive or folder.
Did you ever figure out what happened to the files? Did you search the logs in the Admin Console?
Hi @JasonTM1, I never did figure this one out. I believe there was likely user error and it was not brought to my attention until 30+ days after the files were discovered missing. Thank you for asking.
