Hello, Is it possible for an alias email address to send a chat under the alias name? For example, I have set up a billing alias email address and want to chat with members of the team under the name "billing" rather than my primary email. Thank you for any insight.
Is the billing email address one that you can physically log into? If so, then you should be able to utilize Google Chat by logging into that account and utilizing either Chat in Gmail or Google Chat (chat.google.com). I believe at this time the only product that I know of that can send and receive notes from an alias is Gmail. If you are all under the same domain, maybe the admin or if you are the admin create another username and you can use that for your communications if you are wanting to use different email accounts for different things.
I too have the same requirement. This will be an extremely useful feature for internal communication. Pl suggest if anyone has a solution to this.
The username is always the primary email address of a user object, no matter what. Alias addresses are an email-only feature that can only be utilized in that context. Within tools like Chat, the "identifier" that others see is your name, not your username/login-name.
If you have a specific requirement to change this, I would suggest posting in the Feature Ideas section of the community site.
