Why can't I back up my iphone to drive?

I've been an android samsung user for 20 years or so.  I've never had a problem backing up to drive.  However I just bought a new iphone and am told it does not have that capability?  Is that correct?  How could such a useful feature not be built in?  Is there a workaround?
