Workspace vs free google account, why to we pay to get less features?

if google wants users to use google workspace why not give us ALL the features that a home gmail account has? Our family has a workspace account but we are forced to have a personal account for many features.

If you are talking about a paid workspace account provided to you by a business or organization, it is possible the Google Administrator for that organization turned off the "Extra APP".

If you are a business or organization concerned about privacy I'd suggest using a paid Google Workspace account versus a private account. The paid account provides you with tools to maintain  privacy by limiting what the other user's may do within the workspace domain.

I've looked and I do pay for my workspace account. But I've never seen an
option to be able to control Google home devices Etc
I just want to have all the capabilities of a personal Google account. Is
that too much to ask for a paid account? ๐Ÿ˜Ž
I guess it would be interesting to have a comparison between a regular
Google account and a workspace account, what features are not possible?
Thanks

Hi Tom,

I think you may find the following Google Workspace Admin Help Center Article of interest: Let users' Assistants access Google Workspace

Best,

Draz the Nerd

I am a 77 yr old retired nerd but when I looked at the docs I was not able to enable those features ... I don't doubt it's possible but it is CONFUSING to this old mind....

What type of paid Google workspace account are you using?

Try the following steps:

  1. Go go to the Google Admin Console
  2. In the upper left corner Click Menu (3 horizontal lines)
  3. Find Devices in the list and Click
  4. Look for the word Settings and Click
  5. Click on Universal
  6. Under Data Access find and Click Google Assistant
  7. Scroll down to the bottom of the list
  8. Make sure it states "On" under Allow Google Assistant for iOS and Android
  9. If it states "off" Click Allow Google Assistant....
  10. Click the box to place checkmark
  11. Click SAVE

will I have to change all my home automation devices to use the google domain instead of my personal gmail account now?

Thanks for your help

Google home devices should be able to support up to six different accounts.
If you are using third-party devices you may need to check the support
documentations for those specific items.
