Looking to migrate from a local domain, removing the server and then using google identity and device management for all the local computers, trying to find any documentation for this or even any tools that might be available. We already use google workspace for mail and files.
If you have a large number of users, you can use a third-party sync tool to automate migrating between your local directory and Google Workspace.
Take a look at CloudFuze, Gs Richcopy 360, and GoodSync.
Hi @robertcooper ,
If you're using Active Directory you can use Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS) to sync your users, groups and OUs directly into Google Workspace.
once I sync to GCD I would like to decommission Active Directory all together.
we have already move from exchange and our file sharing is done through google drive.
is this posible?
Hi @Bagu,
Yes you certainly can decommission Active Directory after syncing your user accounts with Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS). If you still plan to have Windows and Linux VMs, you can use the Secure LDAP Service available in Cloud Identity Premium to provide a centralized directory to manage your users, groups, applications and devices similar to the experience you would have with Active Directory.
Alternatively, if you are decommissioning Active Directory because of the overhead to manage the infrastructure, you can also consider using the Managed Service for Microsoft Active Directory where Google Cloud will manage the infrastructure for you and provide you with a traditional Active Directory experience.
