unable to create users with . in username

I am trying to create users in the format firstname.lastname but it won't allow me, just marks the form field as invalid and won't allow me to submit.

According to the docs you are allowed to use . in the username and I have definitely done this before. So it seems this has been changed/broken in the move fromgsuite to workspace.

Before you tell me "just don't use . in the username" I have no choice in this matter, as it must be kept in this format as client has been using these email addresses for 15 years, so they cannot be changed.

Assuming you're following the guidelines at https://support.google.com/a/answer/9193374?hl=en (which it sounds like you are), then it seems to me that this would be the sort of thing to talk to the Workspace Support team about--see https://support.google.com/a/answer/1047213?hl=en for the details of how to do that.

Hope that helps,

Ian

I have already contacted support, but still waiting for a response 2 days later, thus why I am posting here.

@russ12 here's the guidelines: https://support.google.com/a/answer/9193374?hl=en

I just added a user with the email address of test.mctester@... to a test domain and a first name of Test and a last name of McTester.  How are you adding the user?  -KAM

by clicking "create customer" and filling in the form as usual.

This is a new domain setup, not adding users to an existing domain.

I also tried creating the user with the . and then renaming it, that also failed.

@russ12 you are talking about adding a user in the partner console.  No idea about that.  I was referring to workspace users.  -KAM

Turns out it is just this shortcut username is the problem.
I AM able to add other users on this format no problem.
Google just doesn't like this persons name for some reason.
Won't even let me add as and alias, claiming it already exists.
