Features & enhancements

Item Description
Feature Beta release: Create apps and build automations using Google Forms
Announcing the beta release of the following features:
  • Create apps using a form from Google Forms.
  • Build automations using Google Forms to trigger events based on a form response. For example, send an email when a form response is received requesting approval for business travel.

For more information, see:

Enhancement The following enhancements have been made for desktop UI (preview):
  • The URL hash in has been updated to represent the state of currently visible views in a new condensed format that supports preserving inline view state through shared links or page refresh (for example, sorting a table view within a dashboard by a particular column). Note that existing deep links and bookmarks of both mobile and prior desktop format will continue to work, but the URL bar will begin to reflect the new format. This enhancement is being rolled out gradually. It is currently deployed to 10% of users.
  • Changes to format rule icons:
    • Icon rules that don't specify a highlight color will again inherit highlight color from other active rules (consistent with mobile behavior).
    • When a Ref column references a row whose Label column includes formatting, the Ref values will now include the Label's formatting when displayed in dropdown inputs (consistent with how they are displayed in other places).

These enhancement are being rolled out gradually. They are currently deployed to 100% of users.

Bug fixes

Item Description

New: Deployed to 100% of free users and 75% of premium users.
Preview: Deployed to 100% of free users and 50% of premium users.

Preview announcements

Preview feature releases enable you to try out new app features that are not yet fully supported. See Product launch stages.

  • No new preview features were released today.

The following tables summarize the preview features that are currently available.

Item Description
Feature AppSheet apps for desktop users (Preview)

The new desktop design, currently in preview, is optimized for desktop browsers, presenting a more complete view of information with a consistent organization and structure. The new desktop design lets users navigate their apps more easily and access information in context, and provides an efficient way to edit existing records without losing context. The legacy desktop design, enabled by default, provides an experience similar to the mobile and tablet device.

For more information, see:

In addition, the AppSheet preview program lets app creators try out new app features that are not yet fully supported. For more details and to opt-in, see AppSheet preview program.

Without sign-in and possibility of user identification, Google Forms is good only for collecting anonymous survey data, and surely not for requesting approval for expenses.

@Joseph_Seddik you can force sign in to the Google Form and collect the respondents' emails addresses:

This is verified by the Google Account sign in, so you can't get anything more reliable.

@StephenHind @Joseph_Seddik - Thank you for the question/discussion! I plan to update the documentation to describe this in more detail. Really appreciate you raising this question!

Thank you @lizlynch. Actually some two years ago I attempted using Google Forms as part of a solution but stopped short by the lack of user signin. I haven't reconsidered it ever since. But now it seems that we have this possibility which is great news, and now you'll be updating the documentation even awesome 🙂

@Joseph_Seddik @StephenHind There is also an option in google forms within a workspace domain to restrict access to the form only to users of the same google domain.

@Joseph_Seddik @StephenHind @EliK I've added a new section to the documentation:

Collect respondents' email addresses using Google Forms

This section is cross-referenced from the other sections, as well. Again, appreciate the discussion -- provided a great opportunity to enhance the documentation!
