Dear AI/ML Community,
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Mustafa Al-Saffar, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in computational biology. My research focuses on applying deep learning techniques to analyze human DNA sequences — a computationally intensive task that demands substantial GPU resources.
At present, I am using the Google Cloud Free Tier, which unfortunately does not allow access to GPU instances. Despite enabling billing, my quota for GPUs across all regions remains at zero, creating a major bottleneck in my work.
Given the urgency of academic timelines and the nature of the models I need to train, I am reaching out to the AI/ML community for advice or support. If anyone has experience navigating quota limitations on GCP as a researcher or has suggestions for academic-friendly resources, I would be deeply grateful.
I'm happy to share more details about my project, which intersects machine learning and genomics, and I welcome any leads, collaborations, or advice.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Warm regards,
Mustafa Al-Saffar
Hi @MusSal91,
Welcome to Google Cloud Community!
For academic friendly resources, you may explore this page, learning Cloud Certificates and skill badges, building projects, and connecting with student communities.
You may also check if your university have partnerships with Google Cloud, which may provide access to additional credits or quotas through programs like the Google Cloud Research Credits program.
Requesting via your Google Cloud Console:
Other option is reaching out to the Google Cloud Support. Explain your academic status and urgent research needs.
Also note that new accounts and projects have a global GPU quota that applies to all regions.
When you request a GPU quota, you must request a quota for the GPU models that you want to create in each region, and an additional global quota (GPUs (all regions)) for the total number of GPUs of all types in all regions. Request preemptible GPU quota to use those resources. Reference: GPU quota
