Confusion on text limits

In this page it states the limits of:

• 2000 characters per cell

• 5000 characters per LongText column

What does this mean?  Are LongText values somehow not stored in AppSheet database tables?

The reason I ask is that I am getting this error:

Invalid request provided to AppSheet database. Details: Column exceeds maximum allowed 2000 characters limit

It means that every cell has the 2000 limit BUT with one exception. The LongText column should allow 5000.

Hmm, then something is broken because my LongText fields fail at 2001 chars.

Is the column type specified as LongText in ASDB?
