Hi, I’m trying to do a (what I thought would be simple) app that allows users to indicate the location of an injury on a template image. I’ve got the column type set as drawing, and an initial value set as an image as per the example app and documentation I’ve seen. All is well, but then when the user unlocks the image for annotating, the camera icon is also displayed next to the colour palette and allows the user to take a picture and completely replace the template background image. How can I DISABLE the camera action/icon? I’ve searched high and low for a solution/option setting to change but can’t find anything.
[A signature column type will allow a background image (yey!) doesn’t have the camera option (double yey!) but then doesn’t store the background image in the final saved image, just the annotation/signature.]
If you go to Behavior>Actions>Show System Actions, did AppSheet create any camera related actions? If it did, you can go there and set the Show_If to false to make it never show. I’ve never worked with image and drawing stuff so I don’t know if there even is an system generated action, but worth looking.
Thanks for replying. That was one of my first thoughts too! I was expecting (hoping) to find an auto system action with a camera that I could kill but there’s nothing there even remotely related. Thanks for chipping in with a suggestion though.
@Karl Unfortunately, I’m not sure of any way to prevent the camera app option from appearing while editing an annotated image - I’ll ask around to see if anyone else has ideas…
Setup would be different, but I wonder if you could take a slightly different approach and try using XY column type feature to drop points on the image, instead of draw on it. Here’s an example:
Hi Peter, and thanks for getting back to me. It seems the capability is there somehow as the Signature column type works in a very similar way but doesnt have the camera icon. (With Signature i can still set a background image as the initial value, and then annotate, but when appsheet saves it only saves the annotation not the underlying image. Otherwise id use signature type as a workaround). So there is capability there, i just need a bit from Drawing type and a bit from Signature type! Problem is we are a childrens nursery and so use of cameras is tightly controlled for child safeguarding reasons, so if i can stop the camera being offered i cant use it as an app. Thanks for looking into this though and if you think of anything please let me know.
