Reference table with current table values

Say I have two tables: Customers and notes

On the Customers table detail page, I want to be able to have a button that adds quick note about the customer, so a new note will be reference to current customer record. I am having trouble create the reference links.

So far, I could create a note, and on the note form I can reference customer from a selection drop down. Which is troublesome if have to select from long list each time.

In the definition of the column that references the customers, set "is a part of?"
