What is the cheat code to get the new editor back?

I started using AppSheet in free mode and started learning the new editor as my first experience with AppSheet. The new editor is great and I cherish the short time we spent together. It was jarring that I was yanked back to the legacy editor after I paid money and upgraded to a better plan. I don't have an option to use the new editor now.

I opened a support ticket and they confirmed I'm stuck on the old editor for now.

Not a huge deal to relearn a new (old) UI, but the whole flow of upgrading my account and then downgrading my experience seems unusual.

Is this user journey being considered when planning the lifecycle of preview features and how users experience them?

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't able to get back to the new version of the editor with the instructions you provided. However, I did move the app to be owned by an enterprise account I own so I can turn on the enterprise features and that one DOES have the new editor. I agree this is probably a bug which I worked around by just throwing more money at it. Should I be reporting this somewhere?

So, I assume then by AppSheet confirming you are stuck, that you do not have the Toggle button to switch back and forth?

The new Editor is, as you know, a Beta item and it just may be that you have found a bug in their current implementation  - i.e. when upgrading accounts, the new Editor is not automatically included.  I'm sure they'll get you fixed up soon!

Also note, that this new Editor is not treated like the other Preview Features.    The other Preview items are "opted" into by specific configuration settings - there are currently two.  See image below.

The new Editor is given to all users (except you currently - sorry!), and there is a dedicated toggle button to switch back and forth.  I assume this is because the Editor is THE web page while the Preview items are simply configurations of the web page.

If you haven't tried yet,  I would completely logout of AppSheet, clear the browser cache - including app data - and then try logging back in.  Maybe with your account upgrade settled and logging back in fresh you will be handed the new Editor page?

Please contact AppSheet Support for help with this.

I think you said you already opened a ticket and AppSheet is aware?  I would just keeping checking in on that ticket to set a sense of urgency.

My experience with AppSheet support hasn't been the most positive so far compared to the forums, but I'll check in on this one again. Thanks!

Hi @gigstada

I'm sorry you got a bad experience when you upgraded your account. If you want to see the new Editor UI in your upgraded account, please DM me with your account number and I can see if you can be added to the rollout (no promise because I've never attempted that) - it doesn't make much sense to have you get used to the legacy UI when you already got accustomed to the new one.

We'll try to improve our rollouts and take your poor experience into account.

Thank you

PS: the "Preview program" is for features that are available in the apps only. The new Editor UI has no impact on the apps themselves so we did not include it there.

Thanks, Arthur. Moving the app to my enterprise account solved my issue and I did that to unblock some other capabilities anyways. My remaining open question was really about if someone should be notified about this issue in case there's a bug somewhere. If it's on your radar, that's good enough for me.

This is the update I got from support:

"We have checked this with our specialists and they told us that the New Editor is not rolled out for all the customers as this is under preview. The reason that the editor in your account disappeared after plan upgrade is that this feature is mostly rolled out in free accounts so that if any backend issue occurs due to testing then customers owning complex apps in paid accounts are not affected by it.

So, there is no bug in AppSheet related to the new editor."

I'm responding with this both here and in my support ticket:

It sounds like there isn't a good shared understanding of when the new editor should be present. In the AppSheet docs (screenshot attached), it says:

"You can switch between the new navigation and legacy editor at any time by clicking <icon> for improved app editor preview in the top navigation bar. By default, you are opted in to the improved editor."

Both of these statements were false for my account when I upgraded to the Appsheet Core plan. You can see in the 2nd attached image that the icon for switching is not present.

I understand the rationale of not immediately forcing it on high-dollar accounts. However, that also conflicts with the experience I had on a different account, which is on the Enterprise tier for Google Workspace. The new editor is available on that account and the button to switch back and forth is also present.

There is either an implementation bug or a documentation bug here since the documentation does not correctly describe the editor behavior. Moving to the Enterprise account unblocked me but I still want to make sure this issue is acknowledged and triaged in case the team wants to fix it.
