This powerful new way of working is what we’re calling Duet AI for Google Workspace.

This builds on the vision for Workspace we shared in March and the launch of generative AI features in Gmail and Google Docs to trusted testers. Learn more in our announcement blog.

Plus, sign up to express interest in joining Google Workspace Labs, a program for select organizations to experience with new generative AI features in Workspace and provide feedback to Google so we can improve the features before they’re broadly available.

Build workflows across Google Workspace to connect user experiences across apps

workflows-ws-apps.png

Leading software companies like Atlassian, Asana, LumApps, and Miro are building integrations with Google Workspace apps to create more seamless experiences for our shared users. We’ve taken huge strides in making Google Workspace the most open and extensible platform, and we’re excited to unlock its potential further with new tools for developers and business users alike.

Combining the latest Generative AI capabilities from Google Cloud with the extensibility of Google Workspace, developers can soon build generative AI-powered apps and workflows across Google Workspace. Learn more.

React to messages quickly in Google Chat
Last year, we made it easier for you to access your most used emojis in Google Chat. Building upon this, we’re adding quick reactions in Chat, which displays your most frequently used emojis upon hovering over a message.

Create custom building blocks in Google Docs
We’re introducing custom building blocks in Google Docs, one of the latest innovations in smart canvas that brings people and data into a single workflow to save time and keep you focused. This feature enables you to save custom blocks of text, tables, and chips to build reusable components.

Easily expand and collapse content in Google Docs
We’re introducing a new feature that helps you minimize and expand sections within Google Docs.

New membership limits for Google Groups
We're increasing the limits for the number of direct and indirect group memberships for which a user can have:

  • Direct: 3,000 memberships (increasing from 2,000)
  • Combined direct and indirect: 7,500 memberships (increasing from 5,000)

Improving Calendar Interoperability
Microsoft Outlook users who also have a Google Calendar with the same email address can receive Google Calendar invitations and RSVPs in Outlook. A default meeting reminder will be generated in Microsoft Outlook if the invitation was created in Google Calendar to help make sure guests using Outlook do not miss events. Non-Google Calendar recurring events will be more systematically and accurately updated in Google Calendar.

Bringing pooled storage and shared drives to Business Starter
We're updating the storage model in Business Starter from per-user storage to pooled storage. As an added benefit of pooled storage, organizations with Business Starter will soon gain access to shared drives

Enhancing spam protection in Google Drive
There will now be a dedicated spam folder within Google Drive to host unwanted files that are shared with you containing spam or abusive content.

Turn access to Bard on or off for your users
Earlier this year, we announced Bard, an early experiment by Google that lets you collaborate with generative AI. As a creative and helpful collaborator, Bard can supercharge your imagination, boost your productivity, and help you bring your ideas to life. Google Workspace admins will be able to turn access to Bard on for their users, in the Admin console under Apps > Additional Google services > Early Access Apps.

Quote a previous message in a Google Chat
To improve your web and mobile Chat experience in scenarios such as this, we’re introducing a feature that allows you to quote a previous message when sending a reply in a direct message, group message, or space (if configured with in-line threading).

quote-chat.gif

Manage all spaces in Google Chat through the Admin Console
We’re introducing a new section in the admin console dedicated to managing spaces in Google Chat. Here, admins can see a list of all spaces in their domain, the members of those spaces, and take actions such as adding members or changing a members role.

Expanding upon Gmail security with BIMI
In 2021, we introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, a feature that requires senders to use strong authentication and verify their brand logo in order to display a brand logo as an avatar in emails. Building upon that feature, users will now see a checkmark icon for senders that have adopted BIMI. This will help users identify messages from legitimate senders versus impersonators.security-bimi-gmail.png

Providing greater visibility with additional Google Calendar statuses in Google Chat
Last year, we introduced the ability to see additional Google Calendar statuses like “In a meeting” or “In focus time” in Google Chat. Now, Chat statuses will include even more information, such as:

  • How much longer someone is in a meeting or focus time
  • If someone has an upcoming commitment within the next 10 minutes
  • If someone has an upcoming out of office event within the next business day

Set a custom time period for messages to automatically be deleted in Google Chat
For select Google Workspace editions, admins can now define a duration after which their users' messages in Google Chat will be deleted automatically.

New Alert Center notifications for Apple push certificates
The Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) certificate is a critical component for advanced mobile management for iOS devices. This certificate expires yearly and requires manual renewal. If you don't renew the certificate, your organization’s iOS devices will not be able to access Google Workspace applications after the certificate expires. To help you stay on top of their renewal period and take action in a timely manner, we will notify you via the Alert Center and email when:

  • Your certificate is 30, 10, and 1 day from the date of expiration.
  • Your certificate has expired.

Introducing additional smart chip functionality in Google Sheets
Earlier this year, we added place chips, finance chips, and expanded date capabilities to Google Sheets as the latest innovations in smart canvas. We’re adding even more features that help you access and include rich, context-setting information directly in Sheets.

Full HD in Google Meet video calls and live streams
For select Google Workspace editions, you can set your Google Meet video resolution to 1080p. Similarly, we’re adding 1080p as a resolution option for live streaming video, an increase from 720p.

Enhancing tool discovery in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
We’re rolling out an enhanced tool finder at the top of Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides to make it easier for users to discover commonly used tools and features.

Co-present Google Slides in Google Meet
Building upon last year’s announcement of
presenting Google Slides directly in Google Meet and the latest ability to view your speaker notes within Meet, we’re adding a new feature that allows multiple people to present together in Meet.

copresent-meet.gif

Better location context for events and RSVPs in Gmail
Earlier this year, we made it even easier to use RSVPs in Google Calendar to let others know how you’re planning to join a meeting. Now, you can do the same thing directly from an invite in Gmail. If you've set your physical or virtual working location, there will be a default join method for your RSVP.

Turn off the video feed for select tiles in Meet
You can now turn off the video feed from other participants during a Google Meet call. This can be helpful in situations where you want to focus your meeting view to just the presenter or hide participants with distracting video feeds.

Expanding admin privileges for Google Meet hardware devices
We’re increasing the number of admin privileges for Google Meet hardware devices from three to twelve. This gives admins more ways to delegate admin roles and access as it pertains to device data and management within the Admin console.

Assign admin roles to specific groups
Scale and secure your role-based access controls (RBAC) practice on Workspace by leveraging a new capability for role assignments to groups. You can now assign admin roles to groups in addition to or instead of individual users. For example, you can assign the service admin role to an existing group that contains all of the IT admins in your organization.

Set default label values for files in Google Drive
We’re expanding the automated classification capabilities of Drive labels to support setting default label values in addition to the current admin ability to apply labels by default

New community features for Google Chat and an update on Currents
Although we are saying goodbye to Currents, we continue to invest in new features for Google Chat, so teams can connect and collaborate with a shared sense of belonging. Over the last year, we've delivered features designed to support community engagement at scale, and will continue to deliver more.

We’re introducing improvements to the web Google Drive location picker that enable you to quickly and efficiently select a location to organize files and folders. The updates include a new visual experience and helpful suggestions when moving files and folders or adding shortcuts to items in Drive.
