About the statuses of Isito components installed via Istio on GKE after end of support date

Hi community,

I am just noticed the end of support notice for Istio on GKE add-on and that's few days away from it. I found that the migration FAQ for Anthos Service Mesh mentioned that "Your Istio components continue to work, but Google no longer manages your Istio installation.".

May I know if it means all Istio component images, which managed by Google at the moment, will be removed after the end of support date so that it is not pullable to start the Istio component containers if they have to restart (e.g., GKE node upgrade)? Thanks.

According to the public GCP Documentation:

Your Istio components continue to work, but Google no longer manages your Istio installation. You no longer receive automatic updates, and the installation is not guaranteed to work as the Kubernetes cluster version updates.

Google Support will no longer provide support for Istio installations. Istio users can use open source channels (Istio Discuss, GitHub, Stack Overflow or any of the channels in the Istio Community). Istio users on GKE or Compute Engine will still receive support for the base platform (GKE or Compute Engine).

Premium support customers should contact their support representatives with any questions.
