Unable to attach an existing disk to Instance template

I need to attach an existing disk onto my instance template so that I can do volume mounting from the disk onto my container image. Although I am able to attach a new disk, but I want to attach an existing disk, to which GCP keeps giving me 'Updating disk validity status…'
