How to create a table visualization with sub totals including table calculations

Hi there, im new to looker but im trying to create a table in a dashboard where the user can easily fold and unfold the subtotals.

So far the standard subtotal function in looker gives a weird kind of miscalculation on the subtotals and each first row on a set has no data.

We also tried a custom visual however this doesn't work with table calculations. Ideally we would also like to sort on a measure instead on the dimension alphabetically.

The animation on the custom visual shows what we want to achieve but without the short commings as mentioned above.
