As an alternative to accessing behaviors from in-line icons, it would be great if the text displayed in the cell could just be a hyperlink that fires the behavior. For example, my primary view is a mysql view that joins Name, Boat and Slip - all of which are separate tables. I'd like the name shown to be a link that takes you to edit the name, the boat name shown to be a link that takes you to edit the boat and the same for slip number. Much cleaner & more intuitive than having columns with icons in them.
