Gemini Code Assist extension causes continuous VS Code crashes

Hi. My team has adopted Gemini Code Assist and we primarily develop using VS Code. Other members of my team working on the same project have successfully installed the Gemini Code Assist extension for VS Code. However, when I installed it, it caused VS Code to crash constantly. I tried:
- Upgrading VS Code
- Rebooting my compter
- Removing all other non-Microsoft and non-Google extensions
- Restarting VS Code
- Cleaning up and rebuilding the remote container that I use for development

to no avail. I gave up after a several hours of frustration. VS Code becomes unusable when the Gemini Code Assist extension is installed.

Hi @apokluda,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

The latest version of Gemini Code Assist (2.25.1) is now available on the Visual Studio Marketplace. If you're experiencing any issues, you may consider downgrading to a previous version to see if that resolves the problem.

If the issue persists and you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Google Support team.

Was this helpful? If so, please accept this answer as “Solution”. If you need additional assistance, reply here within 2 business days and I’ll be happy to help.

@francislouie, I think you've unfortunately replied to the wrong thread.

Apologies, I already edited my response.

I am having the same issue; VScode keeps crashing with Gemini Code Assist.
Note: I am using vsCode attached to a docker container.
I tried getting back to a previous version, no luck.
I guess I will carry-on using Claude instead.

@Jerome-ML-Lucid This issue resolved on its own for me a couple of weeks ago. I decided to give it another try and it magically worked! I did not do anything different or additional to resolve the issue; however, I think there was probably another VS Code update in the meantime.
