Cannot register or replace a Mobile Device for Alerting

Hi, I have a new mobile device and I'm trying to update or replace my old device under "GCP > Monitoring > Alerting > MANAGE CHANNELS > Mobile Devices" for my account.

I started by deleting my old mobile device from the Mobile Devices list, which was a pain because it wouldn't let me delete it until I had removed the device from all the alerts it is associated to.  Would be much better if there was an option to update the device with a new one.

Now I am following instructions https://cloud.google.com/monitoring/support/notification-options?hl=en

On my new mobile phone I have the "Google Cloud" app installed and I am logged in with the correct account.  The same account I used on my old phone.  I select the correct Project and click "Operations > Incidents".  I even click the 3 dots for options and select "Register device for incidents".  My new phone never appears in the list of Mobile Devices in the "Notification channels".

I have tried this a number of times for the 2 Projects we use, over the past few weeks.  I have also asked a work colleague who also has a new phone to try the same and it is not working for them either.  There is clearly an issue with Stackdriver Monitoring replacing/updating a Mobile Device for the same account.

How do we get Google support on this issue and has anyone else had the same issue or know how to resolve it?  Thank you.

Hello Ron_WTC,

If you are using an iOS device, we have a new Google Cloud app build that is already available for download in AppStore.

In your case, repeat the steps you did in adding your new mobile device. After registering your device for incidents, kindly add these remaining steps

  1. Select 'Register' on resulting pop up
  2. Wait anywhere from 3-15s to see banner on the bottom that says 'Registering device in Cloud Monitoring under account account email succeeded'
  3. Go to GCP Console on Browser, visit Monitoring -> Alerting -> "Edit Notification Channels"
  4. If the account has not been added under Mobile Devices:
  • Register on a non iOS device (alerts default to user-based alerts). Alerts will come through on the same account on an iOS device.

Note: This has been a successful workaround for iOS devices

I hope this helps

Thank you Willbin, it is actually an Android device I am trying to register but your solution has helped me realise what is happening.

Previously under the Mobile Device Notification Channels I had both my email address at Scope "User" and I had my email with mobile device name defined at Scope "Device".  I deleted my old mobile Device and expected that when I registered my new mobile it would also appear as new Notification Channel at Scope "Device".  This is not happening.  Instead it is just being registered at Scope "User".

If I delete my Scope "User" email and then use the Google Cloud app to register for notifications again, my account does appear under the Mobile Device Notification Channels but at Scope "User".  I was expecting it to appear with Scope "Device" like it did for my previous phone.

Thank you for your help.
