Hi all! I'm new to cloud computing so I have some questions I want to ask about private cloud:  Can I build a private cloud from scratch and can it be done only using VMware vSphere and do I need hardware like VxRail to do it?

Welcome to the Google Cloud Community!

Instead of creating a private cloud on your own, you can utilize Google Cloud's VMware Engine instead.

VMware Engine provides you with VMware operational continuity so you can benefit from a cloud consumption model and lower your total cost of ownership. VMware Engine also offers on-demand provisioning, pay-as-you-grow, and capacity optimization [1]. 

You may view this documentation on how to create your own private cloud.
