Backup getting error 690: Host doesn't have any SAN or iSCSI ports defined

Hey. I have a local & physical Windows Server 2019 which I want to backup using Google Backup and DR.

The backup appliance is up, the agent is installed on my host, partitions are discovered, backup template is set up. But when the backup job runs, I get the error 690:

Host doesn't have any SAN or iSCSI ports defined

I can't find anything specific on the tutorials about it. I don't believe that I have any iSCSI on my server and it is only for VMs, and not physical servers. Am I right? There is also nothing related to iSCSI in my server BIOS to enable or disable. When I remove the iSCSI item in the Host options, it returns in the options.

What should I do?

Hello @matinlotfali,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

Based on the error "Host doesn't have any SAN or iSCSI ports defined", it occurs if the backup/recovery appliance is not configured with the iSCSI connection to the target host.

You need to ensure the network ports are open for iSCSI and the target host has discovered the backup/recovery appliances.

For Firewall configurations:

The following ingress firewall rules are automatically added as they are requirements for Backup and DR.

Purpose Source Target Port (TCP)
Support traffic (support to appliance) Host running SSH client Backup/recovery appliance 26
Management traffic (Console to appliance) Management console Backup/recovery appliance 443
iSCSI backup (host to appliance) Host running Backup and DR agent Backup/recovery appliance 3260
StreamSnap traffic (appliance to appliance) Backup/recovery appliance Backup/recovery appliance 5107

For any host that is running the Backup and DR agent, you need to manually add the following TCP port to allow connectivity with an ingress firewall rule.

Purpose Source Target Port (TCP)
Agent traffic (appliance to host) Backup/recovery appliance Host running Backup and DR agent 5106

For hosts using NFS for backup traffic, or for ESX hosts running in VMware Engine that are using NFS for mounts, you need to manually add the following TCP and UDP ports to allow connectivity with an ingress firewall rule.

Purpose Source Target Port (TCP/UDP)
NFS backup or mount Host running Agent or ESXi host running mount Backup/recovery appliance 111, 756, 2049, 4001, 4045

Additional info:
Adding Windows server hosts to the management console
