Google Compute Engine - GCP Free Tier Credit Not Consumed

Im new to GCP and have recently upgraded from the free trial to a paid account within the 90 days period. After the first month, i recieved my monthly invoice which was billed for $0. However, Ive noticed that the free credit is not being consumed at all although ive used up resources that add up to almost $110

Currently, Im not consuming any more of the services and would like to remove my debit card. However, when i try to close the billing account its requesting that i pay for the resources consumed which is the $110

My questions here are,

  1. Why is the free credit not being consumed
  2. Will i be charged after the free trial 90 day period if i stopped using all services ? Or will i be charged for the resources consumed within the free trial since the credit is not consumed ?
  3. Is there something needed to be done to activate the free credit in order to delete the billing account?

Thanks in advance

Hello @RawanAlShamii,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

To answer your questions:

  1. Why is the free credit not being consumed?
    • During your Free Trial period, when you use resources covered by the Free Tier, the Free Tier usage is not charged against your Free Trial credits.
  2. Will I be charged after the free trial 90 day period if I stopped using all services ? Or will i be charged for the resources consumed within the free trial since the credit is not consumed ?
    • If you upgrade before the trial is over : Any remaining, unexpired Free Trial credits remain in your Cloud Billing account. You can continue to use the resources you created during the Free Trial without interruption. For resources you use in excess of what's covered by any remaining credit, your form of payment on file is charged (credit card or bank account).

  3. Is there something needed to be done to activate the free credit in order to delete the billing account?
    • Your Cloud Billing account enters a 30-day grace period, during which you can upgrade to a Cloud Billing account to recover resources and data you stored in any Google Cloud services during the trial period.

    • You might receive a message stating that your Cloud Billing account has been canceled, which indicates that your account has been suspended to prevent charges.

    • Since you upgraded your Free Trial Cloud Billing account to a paid account, you can cancel your paid Cloud Billing account by closing the Cloud Billing account. Closing a billing account stops all billable services and prevents your Cloud Billing account from incurring charges.

Thanks

I'm having the same problem. See I continued the same services i used during the free trial after the upgrade so i expected the free credits to be used, but it charged my card instead. I don't want to cancel everything, i want it to just use up the credits before touching my card.
