Windows Server 2022 Remote Access

Dear colleagues,

I'm setting up remote access service on my VM Windows Server 2022, start with simple configuration only for client connects to server thru VPN connection. So far client (windows built-in VPN) can only successfully connect if I use internal IP, but fail for VM's external IP. Also, I found that in remote access configuration, there's eth interface with its internal IP which can't be replaced manually with external.

I'm already open all ports and allow all IP sources in GCP Firewall. and now I've no idea what was missing configuration so that I can't connect VPN to its IP public. Is there anyone who successfully configure Windows Server as VPN gateway? any assistance is very appreciated, thanks.

I don't quite get it to be honest but I'll do my best to give you an answer.

GCP > Windows VM 2022 (with Public IP) > Firewall rules in place (TCP) should work.

Try simply to RDP or telnet on 3389 onto this Windows machine from your laptop and if that works then it must be a VPN config issue or a Windows Firewall one.

Hi Sebastian, as I open all ports (shall TCP n UDP) for all IP sources, yes RDP work fine for public n internal IP, then VPN config must be the cause or something related L2TP vpn connection which may not be supported in GCP, I suspect, so I'm trying another VPN solution in the meantime, anyway thanks for your enlightment.
