i see how to select spot, but it also says preemptible, will this expire after 24 hrs?

can anybody advise?

Hi @adam25185 ,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

Spot machine it's just the latest version of preemptible vm's in GC, it's not a different option. In your case the options that you selected are the correct, the machine will be available (turned on) as much as the resources are available in the region/zone you've selected.
With the setup you selected if GC needs the capacity it will turn of your machine, but not deleted at all, you can turn it on as soon as it's reclaimed.

Long story short your machine will remain, it doesn't have a 24hs expiration and the claiming of resources could be in hours or even days (not likely, like really not), again, it's really depending on the available resources and demand in that particular datacenter.
