Google Next '25 Updates: ADK, Agentspace, Application Integration

Hello everyone ! Google Next was full of excitement and great announcements, here is a quick recap on Application Integration in the AI landscape 🚀🚀🚀

1. ADK Announced at Next '25: A major announcement for developers was the launch of the open-source Agent Development Kit (ADK), part of the Vertex AI Agent Builder suite, providing a new framework for building advanced, multi-agent applications.

2. Agentspace supports ADK: agents built with the new ADK (and run on Agent Engine) can be registered and used within Google Agentspace, bringing custom developer-built agent capabilities to employees.

3. How Application Integration Empowers This: Application Integration is now a core tool within the announced ADK:

4. What this means practically:

  • Developers using the new open-source ADK can now easily call Application Integration workflows and the 100+ Integration Connectors directly from their agent code.
  • The ApplicationIntegrationToolset was introduced within ADK, allowing developers to connect agents securely to enterprise apps (SAP, Salesforce, JIRA, etc.) or trigger complex backend workflows with minimal code.
  • Check out this article from Olejniczak Lukasz: Connect & Act: Google ADK Agents with GCP Integration Connectors and demo from Pulkit Mathur.

5. Why it Matters :

  • This ADK integration directly enables agents to enforce "Enterprise Truth" through Application Integration's deterministic workflows – a key capability highlighted. Agents can now reliably execute defined business logic via Application Integration workflows.
  • It significantly boosts the extensibility of ADK agents, allowing them to securely interact with a vast range of enterprise data sources and applications – including SaaS, custom, on-premise, and legacy systems – using the connectors and custom integration features announced as part of the platform.

And that’s not all!

  • App Integration Powers Conversational Agents: Application Integration and Connectors are also available within Conversational Agents (Agent Builder), empowering these agents with robust, enterprise-grade workflows that deliver consistent results and enhanced connectivity (see AS400 connectivity with OpenLegacy in the demo). This allows agents to execute complex processes reliably, enforcing "Enterprise Truth," as demonstrated in Matt Hartmann's Next '25 booth demo!
  • Application Integration tackles the challenge of connecting disparate applications through a powerful platform approach. Gemini Code Assist leverages AI to automate the creation of integrations and seamlessly connect AI Agents to backend systems, streamlining tasks like license management. This AI-driven approach simplifies the development of custom and reusable workflows, as shown in Scott Haaland's Gemini’s automation session !
