Let's chat: What new skills have you learned in 2021?

But first: a note about prizes! I get it, prizes are exciting and waiting is not fun at all.

We are working hard to get the right items to the right doors. This is always complex, even more so at this particular moment in time. Please don't panic if you see your friend/coworker/another member of the community posting an unboxing video and you haven't received anything yet. Items are still processing for shipment. Thank you for bearing with us. We're excited for all items to ship, too!

That black kettle really does look good... but it's not always about prizes. I'm curious, what new skills have you learned this year? Cloud-related, or maybe just something fun you picked up?

I'll start. This year, I have learned a ton about YouTube. Video has always seemed intimidating to me. It's been eye-opening (in a good way!) to see all the different ways folks use YouTube to connect with each other and solve problems.

I'm also trying to learn as much as I can about cryptocurrency 😉 (Any recommendations?)

Your turn! Drop a note in the comments - looking forward to hearing about your skills!

Stocks and investing my money.  I've always been the type to play it safe when it comes to investing (read as: I didn't), but it was mostly because I didn't understand business (and I still don't -- not really), but I do understand tech, so I just buy into (mostly) tech companies that have potential and so far I'm doing pretty well.

I remember when QWIKLABS was organizing the holiday speedrun and I decided to just try it. I found it so exciting that I participated in every speedrun and chance organized by Google Cloud like the Google Cloud facilitator program, the Dataprep Challenge Palo Alto speedrun even got a chance to get trained by google experts directly. Recently I took part in Major League Hacking hackathons. I had never participated in any hackathons before, but I still took it as a challenge and ultimately won the spookiest prize as well .
My journey began with a picture submission on Google maps, then I contributed to Google crowdsource, then to Google actions, and finally I am  on Google Cloud.
Thanks

Whoa, now that you say that, I remember sending Google Maps info too! (Years and years ago!)

Thank you for sharing your journey 👍

Wow great 😄

Learning a lot about GCP and still. Thanks for providing such an amazing platform @emily927

From a skill perspective, this year I have been heavily focussed on cloud technologies including via Google Cloud Platform. Apart from gaining skills,  there was an element of fun and excitement to participate in the various Qwiklab challenges.

I want to ask one question regarding DevFest India 2021 , can you please tell me where I can post my query regarding that topic because the mail id they have given , they are not responding on that..

They will call you directly the package is being handled by dtdc same courier so they will call you directly many got otp , many got a call without otp so make sure you keep your phone near to you and in ringing mode

Thanks

I got my prize, got directly phone call, My question is there were many Google community partner swags which they were showing and talking about, so when those prizes will be distributed , will those swags be distributed or not ?? If those prizes will be distributed then to which participant will get those??? Do you have any idea about that ? if yes then reply.

If your name is in the winners list then you will get the swags i.e bottle tshirt and top 3 or 5 are getting google home -

Check here

Tshirt is only for those who attended 3 day 3 quiz and main swags are for winners

Ofcourse I was one of the winner (not in top 5 but in 50 of one track), and got devfest main prizes -- tshirt, bottle and stickers,  I am asking about community partner swags i.e. Quantiphi, Simpson, Recro, Git Hub etc.

That only they can tell you can email the manager or tag them on twitter
especially GDG jalandhar

Okay, but I am not on twitter, can you ask please??

Hi @emily927. Well, I'm just a beginner in this big big cloud world. But I'm happy I got to know the basics of GCP and other cloud providers. Last year, I had zero knowledge of this, even my programming skills were rusty and isolated as I hadn't been conscious how they interact and that they are an essential part of the process of integrating many cloud services. I graduated from university last July as an industrial engineer, but back then I noticed I had only learned the traditional way of transforming business processes, I didn't know anything about modern technologies (teachers only mentioned them but didn't deep dive ). But now I know the importance of modernizing business processes through technologies like the cloud and its services. Last year I didn't image how easy it could be to access virtual machines, object storage, network services, platforms to build apps in few hours, APIs and much more. In 2022 I'll continue my learning path with more GCP labs (Qwiklabs are good), improve my coding skills, attend more hackatons (btw this 2021 was the year I attended my first hackaton). The path is long but I'm happy I'm in the right way. Greetings to everybody from Perú!!
