IAP and the Directory API

I develop PHP8/CloudSQL GAE Standard Environment apps for our GSuite flavored organization, including accessing the Directory API. Now that I'm securing my apps with IAP, (wow - so much cleaner than the old way) do I still need to use API credentials, or is there a way to access APIs as a result of IAP authentication for the App?
