Hi
via GWS we used to be able to see the user's browser history but this has been taken away. As a school this is very importnat to have access to this without going through the user's device. And more efficient as with 14 campus we don't need to go locally to do it. Could this feature be enabled again? All users sign a consent that informs them that all data belongs to the company and can be investigated if deemed necessary. When it comes to minors even more important to check which sites they visit.
Thanks
Unfortunately, Google Workspace for Education no longer supports native browser history tracking from the Admin console, and I donโt think theyโll bring it back due to growing privacy enforcement, even with user consent in place
That said, a few schools Iโve worked with have gone the route of using third-party monitoring tools that integrate with Chrome or the OS directly. Tools like GoGuardian, Securly, or Lightspeed can still provide real-time browsing data, alerts, and even content filtering, all centrally managed, without physical access to the device. Theyโre especially tailored for school environments and can help bridge the gap
If your setup is fully managed with Chrome OS and youโre using Chrome Management in Admin console, you can still control and restrict URLs, but youโre right, the visibility piece has been pulled back
