Will there be a community for Chrome OS / Chromebook in the enterprise? Or could those be posted in workspace? I have a question on how to reduce licenses for ChromeOS enterprise in a tenant. It is possible to increase number of license, but I see no feature to reduce licenses.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Before we started purchasing Chrome Enterprise devices, we bought perpetual licences seperately and they were in the admin console ready for devices to be enrolled. I think the question was - can unused licences be "redeemed" for a refund - the answer looks to be no. Using Chrome Enterprise devices makes it simpler and avoids this problem ( assuming the device you want to manage is available with a Chrome Enterprise SKU).
seconded. As a long term champion of ChromeOS in my organisation and an admin of over 23k devices, I don't find many peers or places where I can talk to similar people about issues.
The chrome enterprise licenses will be either annual or perpetual. If perpetual they follow the device until it's EOL, if they are annual you would just not renew them (with google or your partner) to reduce your count.
It's possible your licenses were bundled with the devices which is typically perpetual and would explain why you cannot see the option to decrease.
Take a look at this page for a bit more info:
I think most of us just sit in MacAdmins slack org ๐
There is a small pile of google-centric channels there.
Regarding chromeOS licence it's like Andrew said. Businesses that upgrade machines usually pay yearly and google emails you when they expire. Education generally signups up to permanent licence.

Thank you - all - who answered. Now I understand. Yes - it's about devices which is not "enterprise" and we bought licences separately. When the date for renewal appears, it does not seem to be able to reduce the number of licenses, you can only increase the number.
Thanks for clarifying. Definitely no option to redeem unused licenses for a refund.

Chrome OS for the Window Surface Pro X would be the dream come true. A lighter and snappier desktop OS that I imagine runs Linux right? This way when I go to install apps like Affinity Photo or Zoom I shouldn't have an issue.
Please make Chrome OS available for the surface pro x and help so many who invested in an awesome harder machine held back by bloated software.
Phillip, have you tried installing ChromeOS Flex on a Surface?
