I know there are some tools out there to enable contact sharing within a domain, but I was wondering why Google isn't offering a reliable and easy to use solution. I thought contacts are essential to a company, but it looks like my thinking was wrong. I am open to any Google thinking and background information. Thanks.
You can add contacts to the Directory using the API (or GAM). This way all the users in the domain (or the ones with access to the Directory) would see the Directory (shared) contacts (and also their own contacts).
Let me know if you need help.
Thanks for the offer. I am using Patronum (best tool for Workspace management). My critique is about the way Google thinks about chat, calendar and contacts. It is more user centric than business focused. It is good what they do in terms of collaboration, but to be honest they have to rethink the whole Google Workspace and focus on businesses and give admins more options. I love to use 3rd party tools, but in that case the APIs needs to be updated as well.
We had Shared Contacts before we switch to Patronum and I didn't like it. It was not working as it should be and even if support was good it didn't help. Patronum on the other hand is working and offering so much more. Still have to dig into all the other features, but contact sharing works. And one important thing support is top notch ๐
So far I didn't have any problem with them and for the moment. A solution like Patronum is interesting as it also offers signature management that we are also using with another vendor (Satori)... But I'm not ready yet to go into the headache of migrating again from one system to the next.
I just turned it off and started with Patronum. If you need signature management and the other goodies they provide it is a no brainer. At least it was a no brainer for me. You can start testing Patronum and see if it fits your needs.
@Tom_Sch you might appreciate this blurb today "BetterCloud deprecated its Shared Contacts functionality on January 1, 2022. If you're looking for an alternative, BetterCloud and Google recommend Shared Contacts for Gmail. Click the link above to learn more about this solution." https://www.getsharedcontacts.com/ -KAM
Thanks @KAM, but I will stick with Patronum. We had Shared Contacts before I was not happy and besides that Patronum offers so much more. Check it out!
Thanks @Tom_Sch always nice to see a happy customer championing our product.
You can access Patronum via https://www.patronum.io free trials are always available.
I really need a company wide contact feature. I represent a school and multiple people need to have access to student information. A company wide contact database will make us so much more efficient.
