Google Meat resolution upgrade.

Google Meat has a resolution of 720p. I want to conduct a remote lecture with a resolution of FHD or higher. Can we upgrade it?

Hi @KIYEON

See https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302964?hl=en for how to set the resolution in Google Meet. But yes, you're correct that 720p seems to be the maximum at this point.

If you'd like to request that Google increase that limit, you might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here (https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group) so that it can be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Cheers,

Ian

I don't see the benefit of providing a substandard quality product by Google, are they working on providing a higher resolution?

Google Meet does support 1080p FHD camera resolution, but currently only on their Meet Hardware devices (and licenses), e.g. meetingdevices.withgoogle.com/seriesone/

Thank you, that was resourceful๐Ÿ‘.

I do a lot of training by sharing my screen and prefer to have my "screen" recorded at 1080P or higher. In other words, broadcasting my face for a presentation is not required, is there anything that Google has & would help me?

Two methods that come to mind are using the built-in ChromeOS screen capture/recorder feature, or using Screencastify Both of these will record based on the current resolution of the screen, to my knowledge.

Fantastic, thank you kindly๐Ÿ‘.

Are you sure it actually broadcasts at 1080?  We would like better quality on our next google meet hardware purchase as we have 8k/4K 62 inch screens.

Google Meet does "not" broadcast at 1080P unless you buy the Google Meet hardware https://meetingdevices.withgoogle.com/seriesone/

This low resolution screen sharing is a problem. Since it is shared a such a poor resolution (720p is low resolution when people have 4k monitors), the screen share is very blurry and hard to read. Whenever someone shares a screen they have to adjust resolution and zoom in extremely far for the viewers to have a chance at being able to see or read what's on it.

Other competing tools (that shall not be named), share full resolution screens.

It is frankly embarrassing that Google is still only using 720p even for their Enterprise customers

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that Google announced in the past that an upgrade to 1080p is coming later down the road.

Do you have a link to that?

I just tried finding it in the Google Workspace updates blog, but couldn't. I am probably wrong.

You might want to have a look in the NDAed product roadmaps to see if thereโ€™s anything there about this. See

https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Roadmap-FAQ

for how to request access.

Hope that helps,

Ian

The thread for this feature on the Feature Ideas forum might also be a good place to share feedback.
