About the Google Workspace Data Processing Agreement

Hello!

I started fiddling around with the data processing agreement for Google Workspace and it looks like anybody can sign it? Does Google somehow verify that you are actually the owner of the company or can any staff member with the domain sign the agreement?

Which leads to some more questions.

  1. Who should start the Google Workspace signup and do the signing of the data processing agreement in the company?
  2. Is the data processing agreement between a private account and a company any different? If so, how does it differ? Is there anything critical or noteworthy that I should be cautious about?
  3. If we were to decide on a migration partner, can we already start the signup before we decide on working together with an external consultancy supporting the migration process? (Actually, when would be the best time to sign the agreement?)

Than you very much!

1. You should start the Google Workspace signup (or have your Google Cloud Partner create it for you). Either way, you are the only (initial) user, you'll agree to the terms and conditions.

2. As with all agreements, you should read and understand them yourself in their entirety.

3. You can start before, or after, you engage a Google Cloud Partner, however engaging them first will make for a more efficient engagement as they will not need to course-correct or make any changes to actions you've already taken. Additionally, engaging a Google Cloud Partner doesn't normally end after migration - it usually continues for the duration of your Google Workspace experience (they are there to support you throughout).
