Hey Everyone!
I work for an NGO and we've been using the legacy G Suite edition. Unfortunately since we no longer have access to our workspace admin account we did not get the notification about the change here
We did not upgrade to a paid subscription or request a discount for NGO and now our gmail account has been suspended.
I have already submitted a request to promote the user we do have access to as workspace admin, by validating domain ownership, however since we cannot access the gmail account due to suspension there is no way to receive any updates on the request progress.
Is there any way to contact google workspace support directly as this seems like a pretty specific issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I'm facing the exact same situation, but I don't have a solution. I have a feeling this is going to be a huge issue for lots of people. Sorry I can't help.
I use my own domain for personal use and same issue, would not allow me to select for personal use and my emails are locked out.
Having the same issue with absolutely no warning or way to get help. My admin dashboard said there were outages yesterday bit mostly resolved , but seems that I am one of the ones not resolved.
I am having the same issue at nylonfilms.co.uk
In the middle of working with clients and they get response that the email doesn't exist. I have no way of knowing who has emailed. Please google, provide a tech to help sort this out
The crazy thing is that there is no one else in my organization that could possibly be the super admin. I'm pretty sure I was the one that set up our google workspace about 5 years ago. We are a nonprofit that was on the free plan as well.
this is the same place where I am at.
as soon as I recup some files - emigrating to a company THAT IS NOT RUN BY BOTS
i had to subscribe to the paid service, setup the billing information with my credit card details before i can select GW for personal use.
Meanwhile, it took 24hours for my emails to resume. Missed some emails that are time sensitive ๐
How were you able to find out your super admin?
@sallyfienup go to Google Contacts with your Workspace account and look at the directory option and hopefully one of the accounts listed there is the admin account.
This helped me by showing me a few others users that I hadn't been aware of, but 1 of those we no longer have contact with and another sold her company so doesn't have access to the recovery email.
Success.
I, too, have been through this dark tunnel and after a week my account has been restored.
First, you need to promote one of your Gmail accounts with the domain ending (not a gmail.com ending) to super admin using this form: https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/recovery/form
This form works even if the account is suspended. You will need the username and password to your domain hosting site to do this (the GoDaddy/OVH/HostGator kind of companies that you pay annually to host your domain). Follow the instructions on the link to add a CNAME or TXT to your domain - I didn't have a clue what that meant, but just followed along blindly and got there in the end. After this, the Google recovery form will be stuck for a while during the verification step, I clicked the 'check again' button every half an hour or so until, after about three hours, it took me to the next stage. You have two choices: I chose the first option (Request User Promotion). It says this process will take 72 hours - in my case, it took five days.
You will not know when your account has been promoted so you need to check regularly. I used this form: https://support.google.com/a/answer/2855120 and clicked on 'I used my account for personal use'. For four days, I was faced with a 'you need an administrator account' blocking screen. On the fifth day, my click took me to a previously unseen workspace page, where I needed to answer a few questions (I hit 'set up later' when it asked about billing), then, after the questions, looked again for the option 'this account is for personal use' and clicked. Bingo.
I am really not an expert in such things so forgive me if my technical jargon is inaccurate, but that is how I recovered my suspended Gmail legacy account.

5 day's painful. I am in the middle of that. I have another paid Google Workspace so I have at least been able to pester them. MAKE SURE you know your Ticket Number when you do that recovery process above. It shows up on the screen I believe after you have successfully done the Check. Then if you have another paid Google Workspace you can at least "chat" with a human and get them to provide progress of your recovery ticket.
I haven't yet had my account restored, or my user promoted as this happened 3 days ago. It is interesting to note that you don't receive any notice it just starts working again. That was some info I didn't have yet.
Google, you really messed this transition up! And then not being about to recovery promptly is making it even more challenging. Remember you are moving "Legacy" accounts, some of them might be older than the number of years your boss's-boss has been at the company. Of course we don't know who the Admin was or even if they work for us. I applauded you when you offer these free accounts, now it seems you are being cursed at. Not that I am going anywhere but remember "Do no harm," I think your users feel harmed!

My boyfriend's account got locked for two weeks without any previous notification from google. He was so incredibly frustrated. I was trying to help him and found your comment on this google community. I followed each step you mentioned above and it worked! He finally got his email back after being transferred to Google workspace. He is a lawyer and the IT people from his firm weren't even able to help him. Thank you so much for explaining every step in detail. Btw, he is located in Lima, Peru. So, Gracias!
I'm so glad it helped, thanks for letting me know ๐
We are having the same issue. You can't use the iCloud support link above if you have a free G-suite legacy account, and you can't upgrade it because they won't accept your admin credentials, even when you're logged into the admin console. This is maddening, and after a week wrestling with this, I've made no inroads with tech support. As mentioned above, I am going to sign up for a completely separate Google Workspace account under a new email just to see if I can get through to tech support and get them to unsuspend our organizations emails, drive, and calendar functions. What a nightmare Google. Weak.
I've been dealing with this for two MONTHS. Had to buy a new domain and set up the free Workspace trial just to get a real person, since the help files were useless. I'm the sole proprietor of a small business, and somehow wasn't contacted about this change. Everything was fine until I tried to log in to my email, back in February, and the account was suspended, apparently for non-payment (?!) It's been a complete snafu from day one. I'm the only employee, and the person who set up the G Suite account, so I should be the super admin. There's no one else! I've proved ownership of my domain twice, by adding TXT and CNAME records, but now they've walked back their previous acknowledgement that I own my domain, b/c they say the record isn't propagating. I'm literally watching it propagate worldwide right now, and have been for the past four days. I've been conducting business from my personal account, but can't access important business information until my work email is no longer being held hostage. It's beyond ridiculous.
@VisibleRoots I can help by double-checking your DNS if you want to share the domain. -KAM
Just a followup, I was in Day 5 on my last post. After 7 days 11 hours, everything is back running. You just have to be wait, it will happen.
Really think Google dropped the ball on this Legacy Suspension; I think Google should have sent all "users" in the Legacy domain the notice! That might have helped avoid this; even them my domain was setup that one user got all domain email and we never saw a notice. So cannot explain that one.
Once you get it back read this and take action:

It tell you steps to protect yourself in the future with lots of links. An hour now will save you weeks in the future.
Good Luck & Hang in there,
