Itโ€™s incredibly stupid, but you need to add a shortcut to an item in Shared with me to your MyDrive before you can see it in Drive for Desktop. See https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2375057 for how to do that.

What might work better is to use Shared Drives when you can. Those show up properly in Drive for Desktop, and also have the benefit of having their contents stick around even if the account of the person who owns the file is deleted (as might happen when someone leaves the organization). See https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/7212025 and https://support.google.com/a/answer/7337469 for more about Shared Drives.

Hope that helps,

Ian

Will the shared folder which is bought to MyDrive by creating a shortcut take storage from your drive as well?

No. It's just a shortcut, like in Windows (or an alias in macOS).

alright mate, thanks for the answer, and yes I admit it's incredibly stupid.

How can I save files from windows explorer in google drive shared folder?

This still doesn't work for my colleague (it's fine for me and everyone else in our team, and it's worked with 2/3 of our shared folders for her, but one doesn't work). It shows up as a strange shortcut that looks like a white piece of paper, and opens an error message that says "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "X" can't be found. We both work on up to date Macs, and need to access files in the Finder to use them in After Effects. Is there anything else I can try?
