Hello,
I have a primary domain that my users login to their Workspace with and want to add another domain to allow a few users to have alternate email alias addresses like ashley@alternate-email.com in addition to ashley@primary-email.com.
Admin > account > domains > manage > add new domain > user alias name > alternate-email.com
This domain name has already been used as an alias or domain. Learn more
I check my DNS registrar and see that the domain name has a CNAME record that was generated by an AWS static web hosting service to verify ownership. I delete it and replace it with a CNAME record that Google Workspace generates to verify the domain ownership. After 5 minutes, google says it is verified.
When I return the next day to add the alternate-email.com domain name, I am greeted with the same error.
Thoughts on how to proceed?

Just a guess, but it sounds like maybe someone has already set up a separate workspace instance at alternate-email.com.
If my guess is right, maybe something to try would be to go through the process to recover admin access to the alternate-email.com Workspace instance and delete it before trying again to add it as a secondary domain to your current instance?
Check out all the various options for recovering admin access at https://support.google.com/a/answer/33561?hl=en.
There are a number of options there including getting in touch with support as well as technical methods to prove to Google that you own your domain name and should be allowed to access the Workspace instance.
Again, just a guess, but hope that helps,
Ian

Thank you. Had to go through a process with a helpful support person to get permission from an earlier defunct GW that had used the domain as an alias
Glad to hear it worked out!
Hi,
Sharing this here as it is relevant to my issue, I am facing same issue on my website <PII removed by staff>
My current hosting is Hostinger and Domain Registrar is PKNIC. I did checked and no one has ever set up a separate workspace instance on my domain.
And I did checked the link mentioned above, is there could be any other reason specially related to my registrar?
Please help.
