Folder upload to Drive - some files fail with "file unreadable"

I am trying to upload some folders from our file server to a Shared Drive (only about 2GB per folder) and I am only doing 1 folder at a time. I am using the Drive web interface > New > Folder Upload. When uploading one of the folders, I had 610 of 3940 files fail with the error "file unreadable". The files are a mix of PDF, DOCX, and XLSX. I know that some of them can be because of special characters in the file name but most of them don't have special characters.

UPDATE: I tried uploading using Drive for Desktop and am getting a permissions error saying I need permissions. I am a domain admin though.

UPDATE 2: It looks like in order to upload these files, I need to take ownership and then give myself Full Control (in Windows). Once I do that they go up no problem. Now the issue is how to change ownership/permissions en masse?

Final UPDATE & Resolution: I was able to change ownership and give myself full control on the top level folder and have it inherit down. Once I did that, I successfully uploaded several folders containing over 12,000 files with only a handful of errors that said "File not found."

Hope this helps someone in the future.
