GWSMO and Apple M1 Chip

I use GWSMO to sync my data on a MacBook Pro using Parallels to run Windows.  I have recently upgraded to the new M1 MBP and have found out that GWSMO does not work with the MI ARM architecture.   Does anyone know if Google is going to support the M1 chip?  And if they do, when can it be expected to be released?

I kind of have everything working using IMAP to access email, linked calendar and just imported in my contacts but I want everything to sync correctly.   I can move everything to Microsoft but up until now Google has worked great and I really don't want to change everything.   Any info would be appreciated, I need to make my decision to move or not as soon as I can.

Google has not made any announcements regarding ARM support for GWSMO. So if it happens, it will likely take a long time.

Now that Microsoft is pushing ARM, though, with their new Surface Pro lineup using ARM CPUs, who knows, maybe it will get pushed. But I wouldn't get my hopes up. ARM support on Windows is severely lacking behind Apple, and Microsoft is still primarily targeting x86 architectures.

Have you considered leaving Outlook behind? There are fantastic, macOS-native alternatives out there that live and breathe Google's APIs, and Gmail on the web has improved dramatically over the years and has become a really good application.

Can you suggest Alternates on the Mac?  I am tired of fighting a losing battle on this issue.  I I have used outlook for decades and it worked for me but an alternative might be my best bet.

As of the moment, Windows 10 and 11 ARM are not supported also MAC and iOS.

What’s not supported

  • Mac iOS
  • Windows XP and Server 2003
  • Windows 10 ARM-based PCs
  • Outlook from Microsoft 365 (web, Android, Mac, and iOS versions) and Outlook from Microsoft Store—Switch to a supported computer version of Outlook.

Hi

I have the same Issue and from support they said that the problem will be not fix soon.

Regards

So we kind of have the Apple vs. Microsoft vs. Google situation.  After weeks of fighting with this issue of a Google Email within Outlook on a M1 MacBook Pro basically means that the Outlook functionality doesn't completely work.   In the Legacy version of Outlook the gmail account cannot be searched nor can folders be created within the InBox (both can be done on google site).  In the NEW version of Outlook, Searches and Folders creation works but contacts and Calendar don't work correctly.   As an example, if I send an calendar invite via my default email it informs me that I am not using my default email and any reply (accept or reject) to the invite does not return to me.   I know this sounds crazy but that is what is happening.    Microsoft says that unless the email is on their Exchange server the Google emails work only as IMAP (which makes sense).  But...I cannot use Google Workspace and have it as Exchange.   Consider me caught in the middle!

If anyone understands this, or has any idea how to resolve this issue please let me know.    Google really needs to make the GWSMO work for the M1 chip.   This is a nightmare.

As of October 16, 2023, this appears to have been fixed. I installed the 64-bit version of GWSMO on Windows 11 in Parallels on a MacBook Pro M2 Max and all is working perfectly.

I just tried using Parallels on a MacBook Pro M1, and it did not work. I encountered the same issue.

I have wished for a while of getting GWSMO to work in Parallels and have not been able to in the past and still can't. Trigon any tips as to what we might try? I've downloaded the 64bit MSI from this page: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gssmo  I'm running Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2309 Build 16.0.16827.20166) 64-bit. Installing the .msi seems to work fine and it does create a few shortcuts. I double click the 'Set up a Google Workspace Sync User' shortcut and nothing visible launches.

I have the same issue as Tahlsr and have taken the same steps.

It seems like the new Qualcomm Elite X cpu is poised to give a serious injection to the Windows ARM hardware space. Presumably, if Windows can go through the same revolutionary change that M1 brought to the Mac's then a lot of Windows ARM hardware will be sold by mid next year and maybe by the end of next year Google will have it's hand forced to give us an ARM compatible version of GWSMO. So maybe only a year of waiting to go? : )

Cheers to my future self who by this time next year may switch back to a Windows ARM machine on Windows 12 running Outlook and GWSMO.

About once a month, I update Windows and Office within my Parallels environment and try again. For some reason, today, 12/18/2023, GWSMO started randomly working in my Parallels environment. The GWSMO tool has not been updated for a long time, it still shows version: 4.3.53.0

My Windows version shows: OS build 22621.2861 (ARM 64 bit)

My Outlook version shows: Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2311 Build 16.0.17029.20108) 64-bit

Roman, if you update Windows and Office and reinstall the GWSMO tool, does it work now?
