Google Desktop on Windows ARM

Are there any alternatives or suggestions for getting Google Drive on Microsoft Surface Pro X running an ARM based processor? My understanding is Backup and Sync is phasing out and I need an alternative for my team.

Yes, RaiDrive works very well

I believe this needs to be revisited since there are a lot more ARM devices now.

Agreed. If Adobe is releasing InDesign and Illustrator for Windows on ARM we're at a new milestone that deserves attention. A lot has changed in the 3 years since this comment was made -

"We don't have plans to support Drive for desktop on Windows ARM due to relatively low adoption."

Over the next 5 years (as of May 2024) ARM aims to have 50% market share of the PC market (https://www.theregister.com/2024/05/09/arm_q4_2024/). Those may be the ambitions of their CEO and may not materialize, but it still shows a massive push for these types of machines.

Relatively low adoption was because Apple Silicon had just come out. Looking at the market share for Macs and MacBooks would have told anyone who was looking the adoption rate would increase. It still sounds like they just didn’t want to make the effort to support their customers until they were absolutely forced to do so. Do better, Google. Shame on you.

Also need it as a last piece for setting up windows surface.

I recently purchased an ARM64 based PC from Asus... Was very surprised to find out that Drive for Desktop on Windows does not have ARM64 support when I came to install it.

I would like to ask for this as a feature seeing that Microsoft, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Dell and other OEMs are starting to ship new CoPilot+ PCs with Snapdragon CPUs to get better battery performance.

If nothing else, Google should implement this on environmental grounds.

And if anyone else is reading this, and looking for a workaround (other than Office 365) - RaiDrive <URL removed by staff> provide a Windows client that does most of what Drive for Desktop does that supports Google Workspace / Google Drive among many other storage providers.

It might be worth a look until Google makes a move on this.

Oooph.  Google. Come on. I'm dedicated Pixel/Fi user but I am going to have to move to OneDrive in the next few weeks if we can't get a fix on this. I have a Chrome based tablet on Snapdragon that functions without an issue...so I'm not completely sure why this needs to be discussed?

Dear Google,

our organization is working on Google Workspace and we recently updated to Windows ARM64 devices. We probably have to switch to Microsoft 365 to be able to keep working efficiently. This is really a joke...

As a Google user and ardent supporter since before the company went public, I'm planning to switch to the new MS Surface 7 with ARM Snapdragon. It pains me to have to switch 20 years of work to something else. Like One Drive. Which I'll have to pay for. Sorry Google, you're shooting yourself in the foot.

I also work for a small organization that uses Google Workspace. We just got a new employee and literally just drove 3 minutes to Best Buy and grabbed a computer that looked good and fairly future-proof off the shelf. It's a Lenovo Yoga, and it's a great and snappy computer. First thing I do is start to set up Google Drive for Desktop, and got this unusual error. Found this thread... seriously?! "low adaptation" -- I just grabbed an in-stock computer off the shelf at Best Buy. This isn't an obscure product. My expectation was that Google Drive would work. We already have Microsoft 365 for business for the whole office as well. We're a small enough organization that one or two more laptops will tip us over the edge of switching cloud providers. And we are planning on purchasing two more this year! If one of our employees chooses to go with an ARM device, Google would be wise to have updated by then because I'm going to start getting questions from the people in charge. Google, your time window is closing here!

Ok, I give up...

After I tried many other options to mount my Google Workspace Business Plus account files (5TB) as a network drive (RClone, RaiDrive...) on my Microsoft Surface Pro 11, I found out that Google disabled any other option by saying:

"Security" cripples functonality.

So, I hope that Google will allow me to migrate from Google Workspace Business Plus to Microsoft 365 at least.

By the way, I also tried to use Acer Chromebook, then Samsung Chromebook, but the software is so limited that I always had to go back to my Macbook M1 and Windows PCs.

Bye, bye Google!

I just got an ARM-based Surface Laptop 7 and we have 100 more colleagues (I'm first out - thought I was lucky until now ;)). I realise I should have had this on my radar but couldn't imagine it not being supported. Any news?

This is where Microsoft's Copilot and Google's Gemini meet. Welcome to the black hole.

There may be hope!

Any solution  yet to this?  Is there any sort of workaround?  Really need to install Google Drive and I don't want to switch to Microsoft 365

https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/google-drive-is-finally-coming-to-windows-on-arm

At present there is NO work around. Unless you like using Chrome to drag/drop files.

Thanks!  Can't wait!  I like the new laptop and it's pretty fast so if I have to deal with onedrive for a bit that's fine.

The Verge posted an article claiming Google is working on an ARM version of Google Drive to be released late 2024
