Google Voice after upgrade from G Suite legacy free edition

I've had a G Suite legacy free edition that I've used for personal use with my family for years.

Two of the accounts have Google Voice lines. One that I use every so often and the other that we use as our home phone.

It seems I will have to upgrade to a paid plan. But I can't seem to figure out what will happen with the Google Voice part. Will I have to start paying? If so, how can I transfer them out to individual gmail.com accounts so I can continue to use them for free?

Who can help point me in the right direction on this? I expect there are many others trying to figure this out too.

Google Workspace Support was kind enough to confirm the following, if I do upgrade to a paid subscription:

  1. The unmanaged Voice account will remain connected to my user account in Google Workspace after I upgrade from G Suite legacy free to Google Workspace
  2. After I upgrade from G Suite legacy free to Google Workspace, the unmanaged Voice account will remain as an unmanaged Voice account
  3. Since it will remain as an unmanaged Voice account, I will continue not to be charged for the unmanaged Voice account

I'm still very much hoping that Google will offer something appropriate for family (non-business) accounts.

Thanks for this info!  Did you upgrade and if so, what happened to the unmanaged Google Voice?

It would be great for Google to have this info somewhere in their help. Can't say how long I have been waiting on hold various places and sending help requests into the void. I am scared of upgrading because I am not 100% certain what will happen to my services, so the reassurance would be fantastic.

It seems that Google is a dieing horse being sent out to pasture. No innovation with Google. Its a large oak tree with a fungus that will eventually kill it. Google has no purpose in this world! Its just people with no innovation, no purpose, no connection to the essence of America and its people.

Hi Brit, I've been trying to figure out how to retrieve a Google number Google took from me after using for several years. I'm trying to get it back with no luck, no reply to any of my requests. Even when I talk to someone they seem to direct me to the wrong department.

They said... she said etc...etc...no one seems to know who is doing what at Google. I think Google has had its hay day and is entering the doorway to a sharp decline. They are too bog and cannot service everyone...more competitors will rise up and chip away at their user base. Google is an old battleship too costly to renovate! It's time to dismantle the Old Girl for scrap!
