I don't like the URLs that don't reflect what my pages contain.

Google sites are better at that.
But that site does other things with my posts that I don't like.
Too bad.
Oh well, if it's free, my choices are use it or not.
Probably not at the current time.   ๐Ÿ˜ž

I do see that I can have 'aliases' that point to pages.
That is better than nothing, but I still don't like it.

What do you mean 'aliases'?

Google Sites supports custom domains, a site can be addressed at your domain instead of the Sites URL.

Further, Sites webpages can be assigned a 'custom path' under Page / properties.  This 'path' can be appended to your custom domain, e.g. https://goodstuff.myplace.io/deals ), allowing for a custom URL that addresses a specific webpage in your Sites website.  It's not perfect, but it does provide nice aliasing to webpages.

I've learned more about google sites, and this isn't an issue.
It was confusing because while I was editing, and also posting, my chosen url was not used.
Now that I know more, it's not an issue.
